The exhibition presented Memphis, Tennessee, as a major center in the development of American music culture: From the Blues to Rock ’N’ Roll and Soul it explored Memphis’ influence on youth culture and society worldwide. Another part of the exhibition highlighted the most important events of the African American civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, up to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968. Original objects, stage clothes, historical documents, photographs, and film clips were featured from artists such as B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes, Ike Turner, Mavis Staples, Otis Redding, and many others.
